This game received a lot of negative feedback during early release, but as all good racers do, it evolved. For a free game, it is an absolute blast. The gameplay is simcade style, with a little emphasis on realism and a little fun in an arcade fashion. As the name suggests, the game showcases a range of race cars through the decades. There is enough free content to keep you addicted for quite some time, but a deluxe edition is available to purchase when the entertainment runs dry.

This game is modelled around the basic principle of competing in championships to earn points and win prizes like many of the games here, except for one lethal rule: your opponents can pelt you with bullets throughout the races. This brutal twist, paired with the charming throwback graphics mean that Death Rally Classic offers hours of fun at no cost to you whatsoever.

However, it's increasingly harder to find actually good puzzle games on a market where the majority of titles are either RPGs or adventure games. So, here is a collection of the best puzzlers that Steam has to offer, all of which can have you glued to your screen.

Ben Jessey spends all his time playing video games, watching TV, watching movies, watching football aka soccer (which I guess counts as watching TV) or writing about those things. He has a degree in Film and Television studies and is now a freelance writer.

Gabrielle "Belle" Huston is a writer and long-time gamer based in Ottawa, Canada. Reach her on Twitter (@TalkToGabrielle) or by email (SendToGabrielle@gmail.com). She's played video games for at least as long as she could write, and vice versa! As a current undergraduate student of journalism, she's seldom away from her computer. Belle uses what little free time she has to play Guild Wars 2 with her partner, work toward that 5-star rating in Animal Crossing, and wonder when the new Dragon Age installment is coming out. For this particular topic, we'll be taking a look at the performance of a couple of games including Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and a few gaming simulation tests. We should be able to get a good understanding of the kind of gaming experience you can get by looking at the performance tests. We were able to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider on an Apple MacBook Pro with an M1 Pro chip without any issues. At the highest preset and at 1080p resolution, the MacBook Pro was able to churn out close to 50FPS. Shadow of the Tomb Raider continues to be a demanding title for Macs, so we're finally glad to see a notebook that's capable of running it at playable frame rates.

As you can tell, Apple's hardware is definitely ready to tackle gaming workloads. It may not be winning across the benchmark board, but we think it's very much capable of running a lot of the modern titles that are coming out on PC and consoles. Sure, there are some good titles like Team Fortress, Dota 2, Rust, Hades, etc. but what about the rest of the catalog? There's no denying that a majority of games that can take advantage of the stellar MacBook hardware simply don't exist on macOS. That's one of the main reasons why Macs have had a hard time evolving as a viable gaming platform.

There are multiple ways to run Windows games like Grand Theft Auto V, among others, on a Mac, but the process is rather complicated. Not to mention, the workarounds also tank the performance, thereby ruining the overall experience. While it's a good way for enthusiasts to make some Windows games run on the new hardware, we don't recommend it for average users. It's better to stick to the limited selection of native titles that run on macOS.

Streaming games via Steam Link is obviously not for everyone since you do need a capable Windows machine to run those games. A good alternative for that would be cloud gaming services like Nvidia's GeForce Now. It allows you to play a range of games from your Steam, Uplay, or Battle.net accounts instantly, without any need to worry about the graphical power. All the processing is handled by Nvidia at sites scattered around the globe. The games are essentially powered remotely and are sent to your Mac computers at high speeds.

Lastly, there's Apple Arcade which is the company's own premium subscription gaming service that lets you download and play included games for a monthly fee with no added costs. Pretty much all Apple Arcade games run very well on the Mac, and it's great for casual gamers who are on the lookout for some ad-free titles to unwind after a long day of work. Apple has also done a great job of keeping its library up-to-date with fresh titles across different genres including mystery, family, puzzle, and more.

Even if you don't look at Apple Arcade as a standalone alternative to Switch or playing AAA titles, it's still a great way to experience some quality games in your free time. And the fact that you can play these games on Mac with a controller makes up for an even better experience overall. You can learn more about Apple Arcade and the company's other subscription services by heading over to our Apple Subscription Services guide.

Even with the limited set of tests that we were able to run, it's quite evident that the Apple hardware has come a long way. You could play games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider on the original M1- or M2-powered machines too, but the experience is vastly superior on the M1 Pro-powered MacBook Pro. These machines will happily entertain you with gaming as long as the titles you run are natively available for macOS. The selection is very limited for now, but you can find some good titles to play on your MacBook Pro in your free time.

But no worries, by gaining opinions from YouTubers, we managed to round up 14 easy to use, good and free game capture software tools to cover your varied gameplay recording needs on both Windows and macOS.
