When setting up a new IMAP account on Outlook 2016, I keep receiving an pop-up "An unknown error occurred, error code: 0x8004011c"And if I used the wizard, "Something went wrong and Outlook couldn't set up your account." error will pop up. The "something went wrong..." error also appears when setting up an Exchange Online or Office365 account, so fix below is applicable.Computer is joined to a local domain, and email is on Zarafa Server. IMAP is also enabled for this user account.
If you have been working with Microsoft Outlook for any time, then chances are you are aware that in versions 2013 and newer users are able to connect to servers using the ActiveSync protocol. Unlike POP, ActiveSync allows the user to synchronize almost the entire mailbox with the server. This is a huge plus for end users as they can now have the same mailbox synchronized across multiple devices. Now that we have been using ActiveSync connections in Outlook 2013/2016 we have found an anomaly regarding setup on domain joined computers. Essentially, when trying to setup an ActiveSync Outlook profile on a domain joined computer, we were getting a MAPI error code 0x8004011c (pictured left). Once we had the code in hand, we headed over to Google to get some answers. What we found here, was that domain joined computers needed an extra flag set in the registry to enable a working ActiveSync connection. Below is the command that needs to be run as administrator in order to add the required registry key.

Quite a lot of Outlook users are getting the 0x80040119 error code. The problem most times occurs with e-mail accounts in IMAP and Concerned users report that the error stops them from sending or getting any mail from that actual e-mail address. The problem is not limited to a particular Windows version since it's established to happen on Windows 8.1 Windows 10, and Windows 7.
The most likely issue that will trigger the outlook unknown error 0x80040119 is an inconsistent Outlook (.PST) file. If this file is corrupted, you might not be able to use the server to send and receive e-mails.
Following problem: Exchange server 2013 installed on an windows Server 2012. Client connecting with Outlook 2007 and 2010. All users using cached mode because they are out of the office a lot of time. The problem we have is if the user is on the road , sending an recieving mail is not a problem. While they are in the office the outlook client updates the folders and says "Online". When the user sends a message the message is stuck in the outbox. When clicking on send and recive we got an eror "unknow error 0x8004011C" and while transmitting error 0x80040115 for this action the exchange server should be online... but the server is online because the folders are beeing updated. Looking into autodiscovery and so all url's are correct.
I have been looking into those artikels to. My impression is because of MAPI is now only done by using RPC over HTTPS , I think it has something todo with encryption/authentication . I have change in outlook the following settings: in the security tab of the account , if you use autodiscover it puts logon network security on anonymous authentication and so no encryption between Outlook and Exchange. If you now put negotiate Authentication and enable the encryption between Outlook and Exchange the error disapears. I didn't hear the customer back for the moment. The question is if it is so how can I change the settings on autodiscover so the client recieve these settings ?

I am trying to create and open an Outlook 2003 PST programatically. I manage to create the PST but when I try and open it, it gives the error MAPI_E_UNCONFIGURED. The documentation does not say that this is an expected error. So my question is what conditions cause IMAPISession::OpenMsgStore to return this error? The PST was created OK by a call to IMsgServiceAdmin::ConfigureMsgService, and prior to that the Unicode PST provider was set by a call to IMsgServiceAdmin::CreateMsgService, with a service name of "MSUPST MS".
Thanks for the answer but I'm still stuck. I've found that: a) I can create an open an old-style PST OK (which is all the sample does), but for a new Outlook 2003 PST I can only create it. b) I can create the Unicode PST with the call to IMsgServiceAdmin::ConfigureMsgService, but not then open it with a call to IMAPISession::OpenMsgStore (getting the MAPI_E_UNCONFIGURED error). Since the resulting PST is an Outlook 2003 PST I must have the correct Service Provider. c) If instead of creating a PST I try and open an existing one then again it works for old-style PSTs, but I get E_ACCESSDENIED on the call to IMsgServiceAdmin::ConfigureMsgService. If only I could debug into the MAPI DLL to see why it's returning these errors! But it would be very helpful if someone who can see the code would tell me under what circumstances IMAPISession::OpenMsgStore returns MAPI_E_UNCONFIGURED.
